Director of Hockey

General Description:  The Director of Hockey is responsible for overseeing the administrative and hockey operations on a day-to-day basis. The Director shall initiate and direct all programs and operations necessary for the creation of a safe and healthy hockey environment with opportunities for new players to develop basic skills and for intermediate and advanced players to become more competitive within the system.
The Director is responsible for on and off ice instruction of players and coaches, as well as providing recommendations to the Board of Directors on the direction of the program. 

Job Requirements:

- Good organization and communication skills
- Experience in settling disputes
- Flexible work hours
- Hockey knowledge and experience in a hockey organization is preferred
- Previous hockey playing and coaching experience is preferred
- Personal computer and internet experience
- Cellular phone and voice mail capability

Specific Job Description:

- Oversee Association tryouts and evaluations
- Oversee coaching selections, and recommend coaching staff for Board approval
- Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings
- Develop and maintain an ongoing education program for coaches and coordinators
- Assist in the development and maintenance of educational programs for the parents with emphasis on reinforcing Association philosophies
- Organize and coordinate the certification of coaches within the USA Hockey coaching program
- Enforce standards in coaching set of rules, regulations, and philosophies as approved by the Board
- Monitor and evaluate coaches during the season and resolve issues with coaches
- Resolve issues/disputes with parents and others involved in SSYHA activities
- Support team managers
- Work with the appropriate referee programs
- Provide clinics/mini camps to develop additional player skills
- Recruit players to the SSYHA
- Prepare reports when requested
- Evaluate teams on an on-going basis
- Develop and work with the Mini Mite program
- Understand SSYHA By Laws and structure
- Cultivate a working relationship with the City of Steamboat Springs
- Look to coordinate SSYHA programs with SSHS hockey programs
- Attend all league meetings
- Administrate and recruit teams for all local tournaments
- Other responsibilities as agreed
